According to Orkin Canada, the top five Canadian cities with the worst bed bugs are in Ontario.
The Pest and Wildlife Control Organization released its annual list of the country’s most “bedridden” cities on Tuesday.
In first place for the seventh time in a row: Toronto.
The following four cities were all in Ontario. Sudbury moved up from third to second place, followed by Oshawa, Hamilton and Ottawa.
Vancouver, B.C., fell to sixth place last year from second place last year.
“As we have seen travel return to pre-pandemic levels, Canadians should be vigilant for bed bugs as these pests are extremely resilient and can hitchhike from place to place undetected and easily,” says Dr. Alice Sinia, an entomologist with Orkin Canada, said.
Sinia explains that bed bugs are “excellent” at hiding from the naked eye, clinging to clothing and hiding in baseboards, electronic devices, bedding, wallpaper, wall hangings and sofas.
“Taxis, buses, trains and airplanes are also common hiding places for bed bugs, giving these pests an opportunity to give rides to unsuspecting travelers,” Sinia said.
She recommends regularly inspecting clothing and luggage while traveling to prevent future infestations.

Three of the “cities” on the list are suburbs of Toronto, including Scarborough, North York and Etobicoke.
Orkin Canada told CTV News Toronto that it “uses the service address and zip code to define which city/area the customer is located in, and therefore these areas are separated rather than grouped within Toronto.”
CTV News asked Orkin Canada why these suburbs were on the list and is awaiting a response.
