Canada’s top refugee list updated

by Ainsley Ingram

Two men wanted by the Edmonton Police Service are among Canada’s 25 most wanted fugitives.

The refugees are being sought in 18 police stations in seven provinces and in the United States. Among them are Joseph Chlala and Saed Osman, both wanted by the Edmonton Police Service for murder.

The Toronto Police Service, the Bolo Program and Toronto Crime Stoppers met for a press conference Tuesday morning to unveil the updated list and unveil a new online initiative

During the press conference, Bolo Program Executive Director Max Langlois literally put $1 million in money on the table to represent the reward for tips that led to the capture of the fugitives.

“Since 2018, our biggest challenge is no longer drawing attention to our campaigns. Our biggest challenge is keeping them there,” Langlois said.

Langlois also announced a new initiative called the “Bolo Lineup Contest” to encourage the public to keep an eye out for the Top 25 in the future.

“Starting today, every Canadian resident aged 18 and over who visits the Bolo website has the chance to win a range of valuable prizes,” Langlois added. “All participants need to do is familiarize themselves with our top 25 refugees and identify some of them currently in a number of lineups.”

Contest prizes include a $10,000 travel voucher, MacBook Airs, PlayStation 5 consoles and iPads, as well as gift cards and prepaid credit cards.

“Our message to these refugees is simple: Today is a good day to turn yourself in,” Langlois said. “So far you’ve avoided arrest, but you can’t look over your shoulder every minute of the day.”

Tips that lead to the arrest of one of the fugitives range from $50,000 to $100,000.
