Ottawa murder: $50,000 reward offered for information on Ottawa murder suspect in 2021

by Ainsley Ingram

A Toronto man wanted in connection with a double murder at an Ottawa mall has been named one of Canada’s 25 most wanted fugitives.

Mohamed Shire, 34, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder in the May 2021 killings of brothers Abdulaziz Abdullah and Mohamed Abdullah. The two men were killed in a shooting at the Alta Vista Mall.

A reward of up to $50,000 was announced Tuesday for information leading to Shire’s arrest, while the Bolo Program updated its list of Canada’s 25 most wanted fugitives.

“The Ottawa Police Service would like to recognize the support of the Bolo Program and the National Capital Area Crime Stoppers with a reward that will undoubtedly raise public awareness of this fugitive,” Ottawa Police Sgt. Chris O’Brien said in a statement Explanation.

“The Homicide Squad is seeking information from the public to locate and arrest Mohamed Shire so that he can be held accountable for his actions in court and to allow some measure of peace for the grieving families.”

Ottawa police have already arrested two people on first-degree murder charges in connection with the May 2021 shootings – Abdullahi Osman, 29, of Ottawa and Ahmed Siyad of Toronto.

According to the Bolo program website, Shire has several connections in the Greater Toronto Area.

“Investigators emphasize that he could evade arrest anywhere in Canada.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5493.

Shire is the only suspect wanted by Ottawa police who is on the 25 most wanted list.

Bolo has agreed to offer rewards for the arrest of all suspects and will also publicize their names through a social media campaign and, in some cases, the use of billboards.
