Team Canada is one of three teams 3-0 at the 2024 World Women’s Curling Championships in Sydney, Nova Scotia. On Sunday, Canada defeated the USA 10-6.

It was a slow start for the Canadian team, skipped by Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario. That’s because the American team, skipped by Tabitha Peterson, scored two points in the first leg due to an error by Canadian third-stringer Tracy Fleury. The United States then took a 3-2 lead after three games before Canada dominated. In finals four through nine, Canada defeated the United States 8-3 en route to a four-point victory. Canada scored three points in the eighth when Fleury successfully rounded two Canadian guards and Homan made a fantastic hit and roll behind an American guard.

Two other teams have three wins and zero defeats. They are the Italian Stefania Constantini and the Swiss Silvana Tirinzoni. Canada faces Italy and Switzerland on Tuesday after facing Norway on Monday. Tirinzoni has won the last four World Women’s Curling Championships. Two other teams are over .500. These are South Korea and Denmark, who have identical records with two wins and one defeat. Denmark’s only defeat so far was suffered by Canada on Saturday with a score of 7:4.
