Canada recalls: Insignia air fryers overheat and melt

by Ainsley Ingram

Health Canada issued additional recalls for Insignia brand air fryers and ovens on Thursday, citing the risk of overheating units, broken or melted handles and shattered glass.

The health agency said the products – nearly 100,000 units have been sold in Canada – include Insignia digital, analog and oven air fryers with cooking chamber spaces ranging from 3.4 to 10 liters and plastic and/or stainless steel bodies.

A nameplate on the bottom of each device indicates the brand and model number listed on it Recall notification.

According to the recall, the air fryers could overheat and their handles could melt or break, posing a potential burn or fire hazard. Hot air fryers can also overheat and glass on doors can break.

As of February 20, the company said there had been six incidents in Canada of air fryer handles melting or breaking, and there was one report of the glass on the air fryer oven breaking.

No injuries were reported.

The company said the air fryers were sold from September 2021 to November 2023.

In the United States, there have been six reported incidents of air fryers catching fire and 24 reports of overheating, melting, or glass breaking.

This comes after the Insignia air fryers recalled in 2022 for a similar risk of burns and fire.

In a previous recall, the company said 41 incidents were reported, including four reports of minor injuries in Canada.

Health Canada said customers should stop using the air fryers. to register for the recall or contact Best Buy Canada.
