Zach Hyman records his fifth career NHL hat trick

Edmonton Oilers left winger Zach Hyman of Toronto, Ont., scored his fifth National Hockey League hat trick on Wednesday. He achieved this feat in the Oilers’ 7-2 victory over the Washington Capitals at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

Hyman’s first goal of the game was the game-winning goal at 11:24 of the first period. Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario, and defenseman Brett Kulak of Edmonton, Alberta, provided the assists for an all-Canadian goal. Hyman then scored two goals in the second period. He gave the Oilers a 4-2 lead over Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby, British Columbia, at 14:13 at midfield, and then he gave the Oilers a 5-2 lead through Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ont., and Leon Draisaitl at power -Up in the lead. Four Canadians had a multi-point game for the Oilers. In addition to Hyman’s hat trick, McDavid scored a goal and two assists for three points, and Nugent-Hopkins and Bouchard each had two assists. Other Canadians who scored for the Oilers were Connor Brown of Toronto, Ontario and Warren Foegele of Markham, Ontario.

In the 2023/24 season, Hyman scored 46 goals and 19 assists for 65 points in 63 games. He is a +30 with 40 penalty minutes, 17 power play points, six game-winning goals, 228 shots on goal, seven faceoff wins, 32 blocked shots, 57 hits, 32 takeaways and 16 giveaways.

Hyman’s first career NHL hat trick came on December 13, 2022 in the Oilers’ 6-3 win over the Nashville Predators. He then scored three goals in the Oilers’ 4-1 win over the Seattle Kraken on November 11, 2023, three more goals in the Oilers’ 6-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on December 6, 2023, and then three times in the 3-1 -Oilers victory over the Ottawa Senators on January 6th.

With the win, the Oilers improved to a record of 40 wins, 21 regulation losses and three overtime losses, for 83 points. They are in second place in the Pacific Division.
