Brooke Henderson receives the key to the city of Ottawa

Brooke Henderson, the most decorated professional golfer in Canadian history, has received the key to the city of Ottawa.

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson presented the city’s highest honor to Smiths Falls, Ontario. native of the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club on Tuesday to recognize Henderson’s accomplishments as golfer and three-time Canadian Press Athlete of the Year, and “for the impact she has had on our city and her image on the national and international scene.

Henderson, 24, has won 11 LPGA titles, most recently the ShopRite LPGA Classic earlier this month. She has the most wins of any Canadian golfer on the major professional tours.

“It’s amazing to be home and it’s a huge honor,” Henderson said when she received the award.

“Brooke Henderson is a remarkable golfer and an inspiring young woman. Whether you’re a golfer or not, people in Ottawa, across Canada and around the world marvel at his accomplishments. She is an ambassador for play and a healthy lifestyle. It’s an honor for me to present Brooke Henderson with the key to the city on her one and only Canadian stop on the LPGA Tour,” said Watson.

Henderson received the award as Ottawa prepares to host the CP Women’s Open this year.

The tournament will take place at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club from August 22-28, marking the fifth time the tournament has been hosted in Ottawa and the fourth time for the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club specifically. Henderson said she was thrilled to be playing close to home again.

“For family, friends and the local community to experience the LPGA Tour again and for all the talent on it to be amazing,” she said Tuesday.

The tournament was last held in Ottawa in 2017.
