Ford recalls Maverick pickups due to defective taillights

Ford will recall Maverick pickups in Canada due to possible taillight failure.

According to the automaker, an onboard computer on certain 2022 to 2024 Maverick models may incorrectly detect too much power, which may cause one or both taillights to remain dark while driving.

“Failure to illuminate the rear position lights can result in reduced visibility for other drivers in the dark and increase the risk of a collision.” a report published by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration explains.

Nearly 243,000 Maverick pickups are being recalled in the United States due to this issue. The Canadian recall has not been officially announced by Ford or Transport Canada and it is not yet known how many vehicles in Canada will be affected.

When US recall announcement On May 1, Ford said there had been no reports of accidents or injuries related to the problem and that other exterior lights on the small pickup trucks would continue to work.

“Yes, this will impact Canada,” a Ford spokesperson confirmed in an email to CTVNews.ca.

Transport Canada maintains an online portal Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Databasewhich can be searched for updates.

“When Transport Canada is notified of a vehicle manufacturer recall, Transport Canada shares the information in the database,” a Transport Canada spokesperson said in an email to CTVNews.ca.

“Transport Canada recommends that all vehicle owners register their vehicle with the manufacturer to ensure they are notified if a safety recall occurs and to take precautions to ensure any recalls are repaired as quickly as possible if they are notified.”

Ford says dealers can update the vehicle’s software to resolve the issue.

Ford Mavericks built between 2022 and 2024 are also currently subject to the regulation at least 15 recalls in Canada for problems affecting everything from brakes to airbags to engines.
