Weather forecast for Canada: Snow, cold in some areas

by Ainsley Ingram

While some provinces can expect sunshine and warmth this week, others will have to endure the wintry mix of snow, rain and chilly temperatures.

An intense low will move across Quebec and Atlantic Canada, according to CTV Your Morning meteorologist Kelsey McEwen.

Numerous storm surge warnings remain in effect for these areas, including snow and wind warnings. About 15 centimeters of snow is expected in Cape Breton, NS, while residents of Newfoundland and Labrador could see 10 to 50 centimeters of snow depending on their location in the province, McEwen said.

Rain warnings are in effect for the Avalon Peninsula, with 30 to 50 millimeters of rain possible.

In some regions, Quebec residents can expect significant snowfall, ranging from five to 40 centimeters. Environment Canada said several power outages were reported, primarily in the Mauricie region of the Quebec City metropolitan area.

Sunny but brisk temperatures are forecast for Ontario and western Quebec this week.

McEwen said much of the Prairies and parts of Alberta will see warm, sunny weather, above seasonal temperatures for a few days.

McEwen added in B.C., those traveling through the Kootenay Pass area should expect five to 10 centimeters of new snow.
