The Confederation of German Employers’ Associations (BDA) hopes that the planned low rate

“In times of shortage of qualified workers, in addition to activating national potential, we become much more attractive for qualified immigrants,” the BDA explained to “Handelsblatt” (Thursday edition). Germany is in international competition to recruit the best minds with the United States, Canada and Australia.

“It is therefore right that we align naturalization requirements with those of these successful immigration countries,” the BDA said. “We can learn a lot from the non-bureaucratic and appreciative welcoming culture of these countries. » It is, however, important that access to citizenship is linked to “appropriate conditions”, according to the employers’ association. This included commitment to the Basic Law and integration into German living conditions. However, the BDA notes shortcomings in the current naturalization procedure. Naturalization authorities “must be established in such a way that new regulations can be implemented effectively and applications can be processed quickly,” the BDA explained. Unfortunately, the new nationality law, which will be discussed for the first time in the Bundestag this Thursday, will not change much.
