Khabarovsk Territory Governor Mikhail Degtyarev met with Claude Schimper, Vice President of the Canadian gold mining company Kinross Gold, the press service of the Khabarovsk Territory government reports.
During the event, the parties discussed the project to build a mining and processing plant of the Chulbatkan gold deposit in the area named after Polina Osipenko. The GOK will appear in 2025, and by then all personnel issues should be fully resolved.
In the next 8 years, it is necessary to create 1,000 jobs for the capacity of the factory. Initially, 400 were announced.
“The most important thing for us is to provide people with jobs and income. Employing 1,000 people is another avenue that today requires a quick solution. Therefore, the regional government is ready to provide full support to the GOK project. Including to solve the problem of personnel, ”said Mikhail Degtyarev, governor of the Khabarovsk Territory.
The training of skilled workers for future gold mining should take place at the sites of higher education institutions and vocational secondary education institutions in the region. Thus, the possibility of employment in the field will appear not only among residents of neighboring settlements, but also among specialists from other regions. Retaining young people in the field is one of the key objectives of the region’s development strategy.
The Canadian side supported this proposal. In the future, it will be included in the next long-term social and economic cooperation agreement between the government of the Khabarovsk Territory and Canadian society as a mandatory element. The document will be signed during the Eastern Economic Forum 2022. Its framework version is expected to be concluded by the end of March.
Mikhail Degtyarev continues to build the friendliest policy with investors, demonstrating his willingness to establish personal contact, help solve emerging issues and promote the implementation of projects in every possible way. In return, the governor demands from major investors a clear determination of their social responsibility and a willingness to work not only for their own benefit, but also for the development of the territory as a whole. One of the reasons Mikhail Degtyarev follows the construction of the mine so closely is the company’s desire to participate in the social life of the region. Apart from creating jobs, paying taxes and developing related infrastructure, a foreign investor is ready to take on additional social responsibility by investing in the development of the region.
