King Charles III spoke to the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau On Wednesday, the royal family wrote on social media.

Buckingham Palace’s communications department would not provide details of the meeting, only confirming that it took place earlier in the day.

CTV News has also reached out to the Prime Minister’s Office for further information.

Also on Wednesday, king met with ambassadors from Algeria and Mauritania to receive their “letters of credence,” marking the beginning of their respective assignments.

The king has withdrawn from public duties to undergo cancer treatment, Buckingham Palace announced last month.

On February 5, it was revealed that he had instituted a “regular treatment plan,” which commentators described as an “unprecedented” level of transparency in the royals’ private lives.

At the time, his diagnosis was met with positive wishes from leaders around the world.

In Canada, Trudeau wrote that he hoped for a quick and full recovery.

Governor Mary Simon, who represents the monarch in Canada, also expressed her best wishes for King Charles and praised his openness about his health.

“We admire the King’s strength and determination in the fight against this disease,” she said in a statement.

According to unconfirmed reports in the British press, late last year, before news of the royal’s diagnosis became public, he and Camilla planned to visit Canada in May.

King Charles has not been to Canada since his accession to the throne in September 2022. As Prince of Wales he made 16 official visits.
