A week-long trade mission to the provinces of British Columbia and Ontario in Canada laid the foundation for future expansion of the country’s businesses in Kent and the Medway.

Locate in Kent’s trip to Vancouver and Toronto showcased the region’s strengths, including its role in the agri-food sector.

The visit has already resulted in two potential investments with site visits planned later this year.

Conversations have also started with several Canadian companies about setting up in Kent, including a vertical farming technology company and a manufacturer of alternative protein foods.

Simon Ryan, Director of Investments at Locate in Kent, said: “Securing overseas investment is a long process, so this visit was an important step towards strengthening Kent’s position as a premier location for overseas investment. for Canadian businesses.

“We have already been able to secure deals with a number of extremely interesting companies which will enhance Kent and Medway’s reputation as the UK’s center for innovative food production and processing.

“We met new employers and investors considering setting up in the UK and demonstrated why the Kent and Medway region should be high on their list of considerations.

“To better shape our offer, it was also important to learn first-hand what businesses in this part of the world value and the support needed if they come to Kent. We will now work with our networks to identify organizations who would benefit most from being located here.”
