RBC CFO fired after relationship investigation

by Rex Daniel

The Royal Bank of Canada says it has fired finance chief Nadine Ahn following an investigation into a personal relationship between her and another employee.

In a statement released Friday evening, RBC said it recently became aware of the allegations involving Ahn and has initiated an internal review while consulting outside counsel to investigate.

It said the investigation found evidence that Ahn was in an “unknown close personal relationship” with another employee who received preferential treatment, including promotions and pay increases, in violation of the bank’s code of conduct.

Both Ahn and the other employee were fired following the review.

According to RBC, the investigation found no evidence of conduct by either individual that would have an impact on the bank’s previously published financial reports, strategy, or financial or business performance.

Katherine Gibson, who most recently served as senior vice president of finance and controller at RBC, has been named interim chief financial officer, effective immediately, while a search for a permanent successor continues.
