TORONTO — The television series The Night Logan Woke Up by Quebec director Xavier Dolan is among the Canadian short films and independent episodic projects presented at the Sundance Film Festival.

The French-language psychological thriller tells the story of a family haunted by a dark secret decades after a traumatic event occurs in a small town in Quebec.

The Canal+ project is adapted from a 2019 production by French-Canadian playwright Michel Marc Bouchard. Dolan stars in the series, alongside some of the actors in the play, including Julie Le Breton, Magalie Lépine-Blondeau and Éric Bruneau.

Sundance, which takes place in Park City, Utah, next month, also announced its short film lineup on Tuesday, after unveiling its film schedule last week. Canadian projects in the shorts program include “The Flying Sailor” by animation duo Wendy Tilby and Amanda Forbis.

The National Film Board of Canada production is inspired by the events of the Halifax Explosion in 1917, showing a sailor tossed through the air after two ships collided in a harbour.

“Baba”, by co-directors Anya Chirkova and Meran Ismailsoy, is also screened at the festival; “Pro Pool,” written and directed by Alec Pronovost; and “Thriving: A Dissociated Reverie,” directed by Toronto filmmaker Nicole Bazuin.

The festival runs from January 19 to January 29. “Infinity Pool” by Brandon Cronenberg and the documentary “Twice Colonized” are among the Canadian films on the program.
