The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) has released a statement regarding the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision to clear the 15-year-old Russian figure skater Kamil Valievwhose doping test had previously been positive, before the individual tournament of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing (China).

“The situation that has developed in connection with the doping case of the Russian figure skater is extremely unpleasant and sad for the athletes. The Canadian Olympic Committee is fully committed to the integrity of sport and we firmly believe that no no one who deals with doping or other corrupt practices has a place in the Olympic Movement.

The Canadian Olympic Committee has not been permitted to formally participate in the process, but we are closely monitoring the details of the case and doing our best to ensure that the interests of Canadian skaters and all clean athletes are protected. . While we believe the CAS decision was the result of a fair process, we are extremely disappointed with the outcome,” COC Chief Trisha Smith said in a statement.

Recall that previously Valieva won a gold medal in the team figure skating tournament at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. The second to fourth places were respectively occupied by the United States, Japan and Canada.
