Badminton News: Independent badminton player Soong Joo Ven is excited about the prospect of facing world champion Loh Kean Yew at the Indian Open starting today (11/1).

This will be Soong Joo Ven’s first meeting against world number 98 India, who is the older brother of Huelva 2021 World Championship bronze medalist Lakhsya Sen.
“The prospect of meeting Kean Yew excites me but I don’t think too far,” said the world number 70, who recently signed for professional club Kuala Lumpur Racquet Club.
“Right now I have to think about Chirag, he’s tough to beat and has the home advantage.”
Meanwhile, Loh Kean Yew’s credentials as a world champion will be tested for the first time against Canada’s Sheng Xiaodong. If Joo Ven had met Kean Yew, it would have been their third meeting since 2017.
The first happened at the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur in 2017, when Joo Ven won to help Malaysia beat Singapore 3-0 in the men’s team semi-final.
Kean Yew was a game-changer at the Manila Olympics two years later, sending Joo Ven to pack his bags in the first round of the individual event. Kean Yew ended up being a finalist under Lee Zii Jia.
“What Kean Yew has achieved at the World Championships is very inspiring,” said Joo Ven.
“I think he has proven to everyone that anything is possible when you believe in yourself. It will be an unforgettable game if I can face it. It’s not every day that you face a world champion. If that happens, he will be the first world champion I have played against. “
Soong Joo Ven was determined to justify his club’s confidence in him by entering the world top 35.
“I hope I will start the year as well as I can in India. I have to participate in at least 15 tournaments this year.
His best result last year was runner-up by compatriot Ng Tze Yong at the Scottish Open.
Cheam June Wei and Tze Yong are also in singles action in New Delhi this week.
