Badminton News: Professional duo Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi from Malaysia who won bronze at the 2021 BWF World Championships last December, calmly advance to the semi-finals of the 2022 Indian Open after winning defeated Ishaan Bhatnagar/Sai Pratheek K of India 21-7, 21-7 in just 19 minutes.

Ong/Teo next faces first seed Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan on Saturday.

Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan, who were the only remaining Indonesian representatives in the tournament, successfully defeated Torjus Flaatten/Vegard Rikheim of Norway 21-12, 21-14.

When asked how they felt when 7 players were forced to withdraw from the Indian Open after testing positive for COVID-19, Ahsan/Hendra aka ‘The Daddies’ admitted they also really cared about this issue.

“I will try to follow health protocols as much as possible and I will try to stay in my hotel room after the match,” said Hendra Setiawan.

In men’s singles, Malaysia’s world number 60, Ng Tze Yong, has managed to avenge his loss to Nhat Nguyen of Ireland in the quarter-finals of the Irish Open 2021.

Ng came back after losing the opener to win 9-21, 21-8 and 21-16 on Friday. The unseeded Ng is set to challenge India’s third seed Lakshya Sen in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore continued his streak in 2022 beating Sergey Sirant of Russia 21-16, 21-13 to set up a semi-final encounter against Brian Yang of Canada.

Interestingly, Loh and Yang both arrived in New Delhi from Dubai after spending just over a week training with Danish Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Viktor Axelsen.
