Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has repeatedly been criticized and trolled for having a Canadian passport. The actor had already clarified his position earlier, stating that despite holding a Canadian passport, he pays his taxes in India.
And now, at an event, the Ram Setu actor has said having a Canadian passport doesn’t mean he’s any less of an Indian. The actor revealed that it’s been nine years since he got his passport, adding, “And I don’t want to explain why, what happened, my movies weren’t working, blah, blah, blah.” said Kumar.
According to a report in ETimes, Akshay Kumar had earlier revealed that he got his Canadian citizenship at a low point in his career when his movies weren’t working. The actor was considering moving to Canada and made the decision when one of his Canadian friends suggested he move if he was not successful in India.

Akshay had considered exodus, but soon after he was granted citizenship in the country, his films started running again, and the actor decided to stay.

However, this is not the first time that the actor has spoken about his Canadian citizenship. In 2019, Akshay tweeted that he didn’t understand the unwarranted interest and negativity regarding his citizenship.

The actor had tweeted that he had never hidden or denied that he held a Canadian passport, adding that it was also true that he had not visited Canada for seven years.

“I work in India and pay all my taxes in India,” the actor wrote, adding that in all these years he has never had to prove his love for India.

“I find it disappointing that my citizenship issue is constantly embroiled in unnecessary controversies, a personal, legal, non-political issue and of no consequence to others. I would like to continue contributing in my small scale to the causes I believe in India and make it stronger and stronger“, concluded the actor in his post.
