Jeff Skinner records the seventh NHL hat trick of his career

Buffalo Sabers forward Jeff Skinner of Toronto, Ont., recorded his seventh career National Hockey League hat trick on Monday. He accomplished this with the Sabers’ 6-2 victory over the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington.

Skinner gave the Sabers a 2-1 lead at 3:56 of the second period against Peyton Krebs of Calgary, Alberta. He then gave the Sabers a 5-2 lead with an unassisted goal at 11:18 of midfield in the second period, then tied the score with a minute and 59 seconds left in the game by London Ontario Jordan defenseman Jacob Bryson Greenway.

Two Canadians scored for the Sabres. The other was Owen Power of Mississauga, Ontario.

In 61 games this season, Skinner has 24 goals and 21 assists for 45 points. He is a +2 with 28 penalty minutes, 12 power play points, three game-winning goals, 186 shots on goal, 45 faceoff wins, 10 blocked shots, 17 hits, 33 takeaways and 27 giveaways.

Of Skinner’s seven career NHL hat tricks, four came with the Carolina Hurricanes and three with the Sabres. Skinner’s four hat tricks with the Hurricanes included a 5-2 Carolina victory over the Nashville Predators on December 5, 2013, a 4-3 Hurricanes victory over the Washington Capitals on January 2, 2014 and a 5-1 victory by the Hurricanes over the Nashville Predators over the Anaheim Ducks on December 11, 2015 and in a 3-4 Hurricanes loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on December 15, 2015. In the other two hat tricks with the Sabres, Skinner scored three goals in a 5-1 victory -Sabres victory over the Los Angeles Kings on October 20, 2018 and four times in the Sabres’ 5-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens on February 13, 2022.
