James Reimer records the 30th NHL shutout of his career

James Reimer of Morweena, Manitoba, recorded his 30th career National Hockey League hat trick on Saturday. He achieved this feat in the Detroit Red Wings’ 5-0 victory over the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta.

Reimer made 38 saves for the shutout. He made 12 saves in the first period, 16 saves in the second period and 10 saves in the third period. MacKenzie Weegar of Ottawa, Ont., Rasmus Andersson and Andrei Kuzmenko led the Flames with four shots on goal.

A Canadian scored for the Red Wings. David Perron of Sherbrooke, Quebec scored against Joe Veleno of Montreal, Quebec and Andrew Copp at 6:41 of the second period.

In the 2023-24 season, Reimer has a record of five wins, six regular season losses and two overtime losses. He had two shutouts with a 2.98 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. Reimer’s other shutout came on October 16 in the Red Wings’ 4-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Of Reimer’s 30 career shutouts, 11 came with the Toronto Maple Leafs, seven each with the San Jose Sharks and Florida Panthers, two with the Red Wings and three with the San Jose Sharks. With the win, the Red Wings improved to a record of 28 wins, 20 regulation losses and six overtime losses. With 62 points, the Red Wings occupy the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and are two points ahead of the New Jersey Devils.
