iPhone 14 will have a SIM card tray in Canada

by Rex Daniel

Six years after getting rid of the headphone jack on the new iPhone, Apple has announced that the next iPhone 14 and 14 Pro models in the US will not have physical SIM card trays.

However, Canadian customers will still be able to use their physical SIM cards on the new iPhones.

According to the product specifications on Apple’s Canadian websiteall iPhone 14 and 14 Pro models – including iPhone 14 Plus and 14 Pro Max – will continue to support physical SIM cards in addition to an eSIM, just like existing iPhone 13 and 13 models Pro.

Illustrations of the new iPhones on Apple’s Canadian website also show SIM card trays on the side of the phones, which are missing on the company’s US website.

US-spec iPhone 14 and 14 Pro models will rely on eSIMs instead. An eSIM (short for Embedded-SIM) is a SIM card hardwired to the phone and allows users to switch carriers digitally without having to swap out a physical SIM card.

US and Canadian iPhones will support up to two eSIMs simultaneously. Apple says eSIMs can be especially useful for travelers who want to use another carrier while in another country.

“With eSIM, you can quickly transfer an existing cellular plan or get a new cellular plan, all digitally,” said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of iPhone marketing, during the company’s announcement on Wednesday.

The new iPhones are expected to be available on September 16.
