Health Canada is recalling these cannabis edibles due to mold

by Naomi Parham

Health Canada is urging Ontarians to leave branded cannabis edibles “immediately” and let them dry as they may contain mold.

On Thursday, the health authority said two lots from WellCann Intl. Edible Cannabis from BonBon Turkish Delight – Lokum may have “microbial contamination.”

“Consumption of mold may pose a risk of gastrointestinal distress and infection in consumers with compromised immune systems,” the recall states.

The recalled products were sold from December 1, 2023 to February 8, 2024, and 587 units of the product were sold. The affected products have a packaging date of November 27, 2023 and January 8, 2024 and contain two 15 gram gummies.

The products were sold through authorized retailers in the province and distributed through the Ontario Cannabis Store.

To date, WellCann has only received one complaint about the recalled products, which did not cause any adverse reactions. Health Canada has not received any complaints or reports.

Anyone who has purchased this product can return it to the store where they purchased it or discard it. Any opened product must be disposed of safely and kept out of the reach of children, Health Canada adds.
