A fire broke out at the Canadian High Commission building in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon.
The cause of the explosion could not be determined at the time of publishing this report.
When PREMIUM TIMES contacted the High Commission for comment, it said no information was available.
However, the Sun newspaper reported that two people died in the fire.
President Bola Tinubu somewhat confirmed the death in a statement signed by his spokesman Ajuri Ngelale: “President Tinubu prays for the repose of the departed souls and wishes all those injured a speedy and full recovery.”
The statement said Mr Tinubu sympathizes with the Government of Canada, the diplomatic community and all those affected by the fire incident.
He also assured the Canadian authorities of the support of the Nigerian government in supporting the diplomatic and local staff of the High Commission who were particularly affected by the incident.
This newspaper was unable to reach police and fire departments at the time of this report.
Further updates will be provided in later reports
