Female victim dies after stabbing inside Canadian Tire store in Mississauga

by Ainsley Ingram

A female victim has been pronounced dead and one person is in custody after police were called to a stabbing attack at a busy Canadian Tire store in Mississauga on Monday night.

Peel Regional Police said officers were called to a retail store near Mavis and Brittania Roads around 6pm after receiving multiple reports that a man and a woman had suffered stab wounds.

“Police arrived and found a woman inside with obvious signs of trauma,” Const. Philip Yake told reporters outside the store. “Sadly she was pronounced dead at the scene. Police also located a man with minor injuries. He was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for medical attention.

Yake would not comment on the relationship between the two parties or a possible motive. However, he said police believed the fatal stabbing was an “isolated incident” and there were no ongoing public safety concerns.

“I cannot release any information about the parties involved as the investigation is still in its infancy,” Yake said.

Customers could be seen outside the store on Monday evening, visibly shaken. Yellow police tape could also be seen cordoning off a section of the parking lot outside the store.

Yake said there were likely many customers inside the store when the fatal stabbing occurred.

“We got a lot of calls about it, so it was probably pretty busy,” he said.

Peel Police homicide investigators have now taken over the case.

No other details have been released so far.
