A Canadian high school teacher is the winner of the latest season of the History Channel’s survival reality show “Alone.”
Alan Tenta of Columbia Valley, B.C., outlasted nine other competitors in the northern wilderness of Saskatchewan to win the $500,000 prize.
Tenta says in a press release that it was an “honor” to be selected to participate in the show’s 10th season and he is grateful for the support he has received from his family, friends and students.
Tenta said he was prepared for the competition because he spends a lot of time outdoors and already knew the region’s plants and animals.
This season of “Alone” saw 10 survivalists compete for the grand prize by battling black bears, wolves and other animals while dealing with “terrifying” temperatures in a remote area of Saskatchewan.
Another Canadian, Bracebridge, Ont., business owner Wyatt Black, came in second place in the season finale, which aired Thursday.
Other participants included an “off-grid” organic farmer from Wisconsin, a hunting guide from Texas and a pilot from Alaska.
The History Channel says “Alone” is the No. 1 show on the network and the highest-ranked show on streaming platform StackTV.
