Border reopening will benefit businesses in Laredo

Laredo.- The mayor of the city of Laredo, Texas, Peter Saenz, assured that the next reopening of the land border of MexicoToday, America will benefit local businesses and residents.

The border town reacted positively to the news announced by the Department of Homeland Security regarding the reopening of the border for fully immunized non-essential travellers.

In this context, the mayor of Laredo said he was moved by the news, which he described as “excellent” for the whole of united states border with Mexico and Canada.

“Many businesses that depend on Mexican buyers have been affected, especially in downtown Laredo. From a local economic perspective, 30-40% of sales tax comes from Mexican shoppers who visit our community each year.

“On a personal note, I feel immense joy for those who will finally be reunited with family and friends after 19 months. It’s a real party as the holidays approach. Our vaccination rates continue to be the best in the state of Texas, which means more safety for those who visit us in the months to come,” he said.

The reopening of the land border crossing will allow citizens fully vaccinated and with the appropriate documents to enter the country through the entry points and the ferry, from November.

A specific date for the reopening of the borders between the United States and Mexico has not yet been determined. Starting in January 2022, essential and non-essential travelers will be required to present proof of vaccination when traveling to the United States.
