TORONTO –

Pop-punk icon Avril Lavigne, political satirist Rick Mercer and hockey superstar Connor McDavid are among those being inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame at a special anniversary gala in Toronto tonight.

The Walk of Fame, which honors notable Canadians for outstanding achievements in areas ranging from entertainment to humanitarianism, is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” actress Tantoo Cardinal, cross-generational TV franchise “Degrassi” and outdoor lifestyle brand Roots co-founders Michael Budman and Don Green are also among this year’s inductees.

Hip-hop star Kardinal Offishall will be honored with the Allan Slaight Music Impact Honor this year.

Also celebrated are thirteen Canadian rock bands of the 1970s and 1980s – including Glass Tiger and Loverboy – who were inducted into the Walk of Fame at a special event in September.

The event will be hosted by Drew and Jonathan Scott of Property Brothers and Juno Award-winning singer Deborah Cox, who received a star on the Walk of Fame last year.

The Canadian Walk of Fame 25th anniversary broadcast will air on CTV on December 16th.
