Zaini Alif: Helping children discover the value of Pancasila through games

by Edwin Robertson

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian Folk Games and Traditional Sports Committee (KPOTI) Chairman Zaini Alif explained that the values of Pancasila can be presented to children through games.

“When we want to present the content of unity values, social values, etc. (to children), we can use games,” Zaini Alif said at an Introduction to Pancamain Indonesia webinar, Tuesday.

He explained that teachers can give stories to their students in the form of stories and game backgrounds and tell the values of Pancasila in them. It aims to stimulate the imagination of the students before starting the game.

“For example, these crawling ants are discovering the value of empathy,” Zaini said. The speaker from the Indonesian Institute of Arts and Culture in Bandung (ISBI) explained that the value of empathy will be gained by the player when the pinch he gives to someone next to him comes back to him.

“They will feel the severity of the pinch and learn not to pinch like that,” Zaini continued.

Presenting Pancasila values through storytelling is the first part that encourages Pancamain training, Zaini said.

The second part is the experience, where the students will come into direct contact to experience and absorb the values that are trying to be conveyed through the game.

Teachers can help students realize the values of Pancasila through interactive actions during play.

“We will bring these experiences to Pancamain, so that children can learn them with full knowledge,” he said.

The third element that drives the formation of Pancamain is sustainability. In this section, groups of teachers will be encouraged to develop Pancamain as a means of teaching Pancasila in schools.

The section on sustainability refers to Law (Law) number 5 of 2017 on Cultural Development. The law regulates the protection, development, use and construction, which are then used as the structure of the Pancamain.

Therefore, in addition to providing advice for development, the structure of Pancamain also includes the protection of game data, game development procedures and the use of Pancamain in education.

All three sections support Pancamain to introduce the values of Pancasila to children, Zaini explained.
