Matthew Wright on the Gilas clause in the Japan deal

Matthew Wright may be moving to a new country, but he’s not turning his back on his mother’s land.

The Filipino-Canadian gunner has made sure his new contract in the Japan B.League has a clause that will allow him to play for Gilas Pilipinas if and when he is called up in preparation for the Fiba World Cup next year .

Noli Eala on the clamor of Gilas fans

Gilas Pilipinas fan Noli Eala is parting ways with his new role as Chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission.

Eala acknowledged the call from fans for him to step in and make changes amid the current state of the national basketball team after a handful of disappointing losses under coach Chot Reyes.

But the new head of the PSC stressed that national sports associations like the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) are autonomous private organizations.

But even with the autonomy of the NSA, Eala said he expects the SBP to address the issues the organization currently faces as an independent federation.

“I think as far as I’m concerned, I believe the SBP will do the needful. I will leave it there. The jurisdiction is theirs,” the former PBA commissioner said.
