The default settings in new Windows 11 operating systemcan greatly reduce the performance level of the computer in games. In some cases, write the authors of PCGamer, the frame rate could drop by 28%.
Journalists have discovered that Windows 11 performance in games can be affected by the Virtualization-Based Security (VBS) security feature, which enables software and hardware virtualization. This option, which is enabled by default, creates an isolated subsystem to protect the device from malicious applications.
It turned out that with VBS enabled, the average frame rate in Far Cry New Dawn dropped by 5%, in Horizon Zero Dawn and Metro Exodus – by 24-25%, and in Shadow of the Tomb Raider – up to 28%.
At the same time, experts note that the problem can only affect new computers with an OEM version of Windows 11. Those who migrate from Windows 10 to Windows 11 (and VBS has already been disabled) have nothing to worry about.
Windows 11 – “One of the most important Windows updates in a decade” – will be released next Tuesday, October 5. The exit is scheduled for the same day the new version of the Office 2021 suite of office applications for consumers.
The main changes in Windows 11 will be the new Start menu without “dynamic tiles”, the Windows Store with the ability to install Android-Apps, a partial interface redesign (many elements are centered, and the corners are rounded), custom Windows widgets, as well as performance and multitasking improvements.
