Accordingly Rogers Sportsnet On Monday, the New Jersey Devils named Travis Green of Castlegar, British Columbia, as their new head coach. Green takes over from Lindy Ruff of Warburg, Alberta.
This is Green’s second coaching job in the National Hockey League. He previously coached the Vancouver Canucks from 2017 to 2021. In five seasons, Green had a record of 133 wins and 147 regular season losses, including 34 losses in overtime, and a winning percentage of .478.
Green also led the Canucks to a successful run in the Edmonton bubble during the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Green led the Canucks to a three-to-one victory over the Minnesota Wild in the qualifying round and then to a four-to-two victory over the St. Louis Blues in the Western Conference quarterfinals before a dramatic seven-game stretch Series against the Vegas Golden, Knights lost in the Western Conference semifinals.
The Devils are in sixth place in the Metropolitan Division with 64 points. That’s just one season after they were second in the Metropolitan Division with 112 points.
Green also played 14 seasons in the NHL as a center from 1992 to 2007. He was with the New York Islanders from 1992 to 1998, the Anaheim Ducks from 1998 to 1999, and the Phoenix Coyotes from 1999 to 2001 from 2006 to 2007 Toronto Maple Leafs from 2001 to 2003 and 2007 and the Boston Bruins from 2003 to 2006. In 970 games, Green scored 193 goals and 269 assists for 455 points. He was a -55 with 764 penalty minutes, 117 power play points, eight shorthanded points, 21 game-winning goals and 1,726 shots on goal.
