Six Canadian Airports Get Joint Federal-Provincial Renovation Funds

The governments of Canada and Saskatchewan have announcement a joint investment to modernize airport infrastructure in the northern region of the country.

As part of this initiative, the two governments have agreed to jointly fund the renovation of six northern airports with a combined injection of C$2.9 million.

Canada’s Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, Dominic LeBlanc, said, “The projects announced today are essential to ensuring safe, secure and efficient travel for visitors and residents of northern Saskatchewan. .

“These investments, made possible through collaboration with the Government of Saskatchewan, will support community growth for years to come.

La Loche, Ile-a-la-Crosse, Sandy Bay, Cumberland House and Pinehouse Lake airports will be equipped with all-weather observing systems (AWOS) with combined federal and provincial funding of $1. C$25 million.

AWOS technology was designed to provide accurate real-time airport weather information and reports.

In addition, airfield lighting will be upgraded at La Loche, Île-à-la-Crosse, Pinehouse Lake and Patuanak airports.

The renovation will require an investment of C$1.65 million, which will be shared equally by the two governments.

On behalf of Saskatchewan Highways Minister Jeremy Cockrill, MPP for Athabasca Jim Lemaigre said, “Northern Saskatchewan airports connect communities to vital public services like air ambulance, law enforcement and fire suppression. These investments will enable northern airports to provide safe, fast and reliable service.

In June, the Canadian government allocated C$105 million under the National Trade Corridors Fund to improve the efficiency of the country’s air carrier supply chain.
