OTTAWA — Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds appears to be a potential owner of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators.
Several media outlets reported on Thursday that an offer from real estate developer Remington Group for the team would not be accepted. Reynolds was believed to have had a hand in this bid.
ESPN’s Emily Kaplan was the first to break the news.
Reynolds recently bought Welsh football club AFC Wrexham along with fellow actor Rob McElhenney. The team were the subject of a successful documentary recently promoted to the fourth tier of English Football League.
The sale of the Senators drew a lot of media attention, in large part due to the large number of celebrities believed to have been involved in the process.
Canadian singer The Weeknd and rap legend Snoop Dogg are also involved in bidding.
The board of Senators Sports & Entertainment announced in November that a process to sell the club had been launched.
Senators owner Eugene Melnyk died on March 28, 2022 at the age of 62 of complications from an illness. He had previously said he plans to leave the team to his daughters Anna and Olivia.
