Through AgKnow, we destigmatize farmer mental health and make it easier for farmers to access therapies and advice tailored to their lifestyle. This grant will allow us to expand our programming and develop more educational resources so therapists and counselors across Alberta can better understand and help farmers.”

AgKnow also trains therapists, healthcare providers and nonprofit organizations to help them understand farming culture, the issues farmers face, and the supports available to address mental health issues.

“Our government is grateful for partners who support mental wellness through initiatives like AgKnow,” said Dan Williams, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and MLA for Peace River.

“As one of Alberta’s most important industries, we are committed to providing farmers, ranchers and their families the support they need.”

So far, AgKnow has hosted 24 workshops and webinars for farmers or therapists, reaching over 1,500 people.

Since AgKnow launched, 12 agriculture-informed therapists and counselors have helped 39 farming families with mental health support.
