Jakarta (ANTARA) – Netflix has said “Squid Game” has officially become the most popular show it has ever released.
Quoting Variety on Wednesday, Netflix said in a Twitter post that “Squid Game” reached 111 million views in its first 17 days of airing. In addition, the series Thriller in French directed by Hwang Dong-Hyuk is also the first time to surpass 100 million viewers in 28 days of broadcast.

A Netflix spokesperson said the figure was calculated based on the number of accounts that watched the series for at least two minutes.
This figure indicates that “Squid Game” managed to beat “Bridgerton” which was previously ranked No. 1 with a total audience of 82 accounts within 28 days of its release. So, now “Squid Game” has successfully become the most popular series ever released by Netflix.
Since its debut on September 17th, “Squid Game” occupies the n ° 1 position on the service. Diffusion in 94 countries. “Squid Game” also managed to stay at the No. 1 position in the United States for 21 days.
This position allowed “Squid Game” to successfully break the title record of a non-English series which was able to occupy the first position.
“Squid Game” director Hwang Dong-Hyuk said he first conceived the idea for the series in 2008 as a movie. But the studio in Korea refused because of the violent theme.
“When I first started writing ‘Squid Game’ I had financial difficulties myself and spent a lot of time in cafes reading comics, so I wondered how I would feel if I was participating in the game itself, ”said Hwang Dong-Hyuk.
“But I found the games too complicated, and for my own work I was more focused on using children’s games,” he added.
