F1 News: Max Verstappen reveals that there was no influence from his father Jos Verstappen in his decision to become a driver.

Max Verstappen started his karting career very young. It all started when four-year-old Verstappen called his father Jos to ask if he could race in a kart. The father’s answer was “no”, but six months later the former Minardi rider changed his mind.

“It was actually my own decision. After going on the kart track and seeing a younger driver driving, I called my dad, who was in Canada at the time for F1 and told him that I wanted to run. At the beginning he said no. He wanted me to wait another two years, but six months later I had already started, when I was four and a half, to go karting ”, Verstappen said in an interview with The Gentleman’s Journal.

“Honestly, I wasn’t thinking about my age at the time. I always raced in the category I was the youngest in. I always race against riders who are two or three years older, or even older. in my last year in karting I’m 16 and racing against riders in their twenties and some are even 35.

Twenty years after his first kart race, Verstappen is now fighting for his first F1 world title. Currently with five races to go, the Red Bull driver leads the standings 12 points behind Lewis Hamilton.
