Listeria recall Canada: More salad packets withdrawn

by Naomi Parham

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has added more salad kits to a recall that began last week because of possible listeria contamination.

The latest products to be recalled are Dole and President’s Choice Southwest Salad Kits and Dole’s nationally distributed Avocado Ranch Chop Kit.

The inspection agency is also recalling Salsa from Fresh Express! Ensalada kit sold in Alberta and British Columbia.

Other products already recalled last week include Rojo’s Black Bean 6 Layer Dip and President’s Choice and Taylor Farms Mexican-Style Street Corn Salad Kits.

The affected products are all cheese from Rizo-Lopez Foods, which is believed to be the cause of a listeria outbreak in the United States.

According to the Food Inspection Agency, no illnesses associated with these products have been reported in Canada.

It says people who own the recalled products should throw them away or return them.

The agency says food contaminated with listeria may not look or smell spoiled, but it can still make people sick.

Symptoms may include vomiting, fever, muscle pain, severe headache, and neck stiffness.

The agency says anyone who believes they have become ill from consuming the recalled products should seek medical attention.
