World Paramount Gonna throw Pluto TVthe studio’s ad-supported free-to-air streaming television service, in Canada on December 1.

Pluto TV’s long-awaited debut north of the border will deliver approximately 100 TV channels and over 20,000 hours of content. The latest international launch of the FAST channel comes as Canadian viewers grapple with rising subscription costs and more subscription video offerings than ever to compete with Netflix and other streaming giants.

Pluto TV, which has already launched in Nordic markets and elsewhere in Europe, will see local Canadian partner Corus Entertainment sell local advertising and provide its own licensed US pricing for the US-based streaming platform. This will include offering local series like Like it or list it and Chopped Canadain addition to American imports such as NCIS franchise, judy judge and Hawaii Five-0.

“Our initial channel slate further illustrates how we are working to combine Corus’ incredible local content offering with Pluto TV’s global content to meet the tastes of Canadian audiences.” I am confident that Pluto TV will quickly become a new destination both for fans of curated content as well as customers and partners interested in investing in a unique new streaming service when it launches,” Olivier Jollet, Executive Vice President and international general manager for Pluto TV, said in a statement, as the FAST channel is teaming up to launch in Canada rather than going it alone.

Pluto TV is expected to be among the first of the major US-based free and ad-supported streaming space channels to head north as a looming recession forces Canadians to figure out which SVOD channels to keep paying for. At launch, Canadians will watch Pluto TV via www.pluto.tv and apps for Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Android TV, Chromecast, Samsung and LG.
