Indian and Canadian officials meet to discuss critical minerals

The meeting takes place in the middle tense geopolitical relations between the two nations after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of involvement in the killing of a Sikh activist in western Canada in June.

The Indian government did not specify the critical minerals discussed among ministers.

Canada’s Yukon Territory in the northwest of the country is said to have extensive mineral resources, including asbestos, copper, gold, iron, lead, silver and zinc a statement by the Indian government.

According to a statement from the Indian government, “officials from both sides will discuss the future path of cooperation in the field of mineral resources.”

Earlier this month, India hosted the G20 summit in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also made a series of state visits last month to build closer ties with Western governments.
