Hockey Canada announced Thursday that the Canadian team is attempting to recapture the world para-hockey championship on home ice.
Canada will host the 2024 World Cup May 4-12 in Calgary.
The 17-player roster includes a dozen returnees from the squad that won silver in 2023 in Moose Jaw, Sask.
Canada lost 6-1 to the United States in the final after also losing 5-1 and 3-2 in overtime to the Americans in the 2021 and 2019 finals in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
Moose Jaw’s 2024 World Cup squad includes Canada’s top three scorers: Dominic Cozzolino of Mississauga, Ontario, Tyler McGregor of Forest, Ontario, and Adam Dixon of Midland, Ontario.
“Since our first evaluation camp in September, we have worked hard to grow as a team,” Canadian head coach Russ Herrington said in a statement.
“All of our players have shown resilience and perseverance this season, which has made putting this squad together challenging in the best way for us as a team.”
“Representing Canada on home ice is a special opportunity and we are confident this group will put in the necessary effort to make Canadians proud from coast to coast.”
Canada is joined in Group B of the World Cup by the Czech Republic, Italy and Japan, while Group A includes China, Korea, Slovakia and the USA
The Canadians begin action against Japan on May 4th before taking on Italy on May 5th. They complete the preliminary round on May 7 against 2023 bronze medalists the Czech Republic.
