Grimes shared the song “Player of Games” and showed a lyric video shot in a video game style. This is the singer’s first single released in 2021 – and it was included in the soundtrack of the new fifth season of the game Rocket League.
Along with the track’s release, Grimes announced a new “Book 1” project. Many fans have speculated that this is the title of his upcoming album, but details of “Book 1” have yet to be revealed. But what we already know for sure, the singer will soon publish a full-fledged video for the composition.
The sound of the song “Player of Games” turned out to be quite light and energetic, for some fans it even sounded pop. But popular rapper Princess Nokia admitted that she really liked the track and that it reminded her of Ibiza. Player of Games was co-written and produced by Canadian musician Illangelo, known for his collaboration with The Weeknd. By the way, the director of the lyric video was Anton Tammi, who also worked several times with The Weeknd – he was the one who shot the videos “Blinding Lights”, “Save Your Tears” and “Heartless”.
While Grimes didn’t release any tracks earlier in 2021, she appeared in Doja Cat’s “Need To Know” music video, which takes place on a space night.
Grimes’ last album to date, “Miss Anthropocene”, was released in February 2020, her first studio effort in five years. In the same year, the singer took part in the recording of the track “Cry” by Ashnikko and also participated in the work on the soundtrack of the video game Cyberpunk 2077.
