Federal proof of vaccination for travelers now available

by Ainsley Ingram

British Columbians can now access Canadian proof of COVID-19 vaccination to travel.

As of October 30, 2021, this proof of vaccination will be required when traveling to Canada by plane, train or cruise ship.

The Government of Canada has stated that federal proof of vaccination can also be used for international travel. Before departing, all travelers are encouraged to check the Government of Canada’s travel requirements and the requirements of the country to which they are traveling.

“The federal government is launching a proof of vaccination card to ensure that people who wish to travel have what they need to do so,” said Adrian Dix, Minister of Health. “The Federal Card is accessible in the same way as the BC Vaccine Card, which 3.7 million British Columbians have downloaded to enjoy non-essential activities across our province, such as dining out or attending a sporting event. By making sure we are all fully immunized, it is safe for us to do more with the people we love. “

As with the BC Vaccine Card, the new federal proof of vaccination can be accessed through Health Gateway, the Department of Health’s web service, by phone or in person at most Service BC offices.

Two doses of any federally approved COVID-19 vaccine, with the second dose given at least 14 days before travel, should be considered fully immunized. Canadians who are not fully immunized must complete testing requirements and mandatory quarantine upon return to Canada.

The British Columbia vaccination card will continue to be used for non-essential activities in British Columbia, such as going to a restaurant or a sporting event.

The Government of Canada has also indicated that it will allow residents of British Columbia to use the British Columbia vaccination card to travel to Canada until November 30, 2021, while new federal proof of vaccination is pending. deployed.
