Alejandra Palacios Prieto is Commissioner-President of the Federal Commission for Economic Competition (COFECE). Fue nombrada por el Senado de la República a raíz de la reforma constitucional en materia de telecomunicaciones y competencia económica of 2013, reelected in 2017, para un segundo periodo that concluded in September of 2021. Es la primera mujer in presiding over the autoridad de competencia in Mexico.

Prior to this responsibility, she was Director of Regulatory and Good Governance Projects at the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO), where she developed the research program on economic competition issues, including issues related to economic regulation. , telecommunications and public procurement.

As part of her international activity, since June 2016 she has been Vice-President of the International Competition Network (ICN), an organization that brings together more than 130 competition agencies around the world; as well as a member of the Bureau of the OECD Competition Committee and the International Women’s Forum, Mexican section.

According to Women @ Competition, she is one of the 40 Most Outstanding Women’s Competition Specialists in America, Asia and Europe, including her in her 2019 “40 in 40” list. Likewise, the magazine Expansión named her in 2012, as one of the outstanding professional profiles that make up the “30 promises in the 30” list.

Alejandra Palacios holds a degree in economics and a master’s degree in business administration from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM). She also holds a master’s degree in administration and public policies from the Center for Economic Research and Education (CIDE).

In the academic field, she was a professor and academic coordinator of the economics department of ITAM.
