Tokyo (dpa) – According to Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, more than 30 additional Germans have left the Gaza Strip. In total, more than 50 German nationals have now left the region, the Green politician said after the arrival of foreign ministers from G7 countries from economically strong democracies in the Japanese capital Tokyo. The family members were said to be among around 30 individuals who have now left the country. According to information from the Foreign Ministry, the Germans left on Monday evening.
After his arrival, Baerbock wished to speak with the G7 partners during a working dinner on the situation in the Middle East and on the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. Besides Germany, the G7 countries made up of economically strong democracies also include France, Italy, Japan, Canada, the United States and Great Britain.
Baerbock once again led an intensive campaign for a humanitarian ceasefire to supply civilians in the Gaza Strip. She has had numerous discussions on this subject in recent days and has spoken with a wide range of partners about “how we can finally initiate humanitarian ceasefires, both temporal and geographical.” The population of Gaza needed water, bread and above all medical care. “And the most seriously injured must finally be treated. In this situation, the departure of the Germans is “a small glimmer of hope”.
More foreigners should leave the Gaza Strip
Today, hundreds of foreigners and Palestinians with second passports are expected to leave the Gaza Strip and travel to Egypt. Among the approximately 600 people leaving the country, around 150 are Germans, according to a list from the Palestinian Border Authority. According to the list, the other travelers come from France, Canada, Ukraine, Romania and the Philippines, among others. On Monday, more than 300 foreigners in total left the Gaza Strip, including 100 Egyptians, Egyptian security officials said.
