According to the federal government, cybersecurity and data protection experts are “in constant contact” with public service providers to address a recent “cyber incident” at MSH International (MSH) and to protect the personal information of government employees.
MSH, a federal subcontractor, is helping Canada Life provide insurance coverage to Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP) members traveling or stationed outside of Canada, according to communications from the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat this week .
Canada Life announced that the PSHCP member portal was unavailable due to the incident and MSH was unable to process or access the status of claims under the plan. According to a statement from Treasury Board President Anita Anand on Wednesday, Canada Life has assured that it is “exploring options to support affected members” during the outage.
“We have asked Canada Life to work diligently with MSH to investigate what information may have been affected and to restore all services safely and promptly,” Anand said.
“This situation is a stark reminder of the ongoing risks facing public and private organizations across Canada and abroad. We will continue to work hard to prevent, detect and manage these threats.”
