E3 2021 to ban words “Canada” and “Canadian” – they are used to humiliate black people
The organizers of the E3 game exhibition are compiling a list of prohibited words that will not be available on the portal and in the event app.
“The main purpose of compiling this list is to make sure moderation is working properly to create a safe environment,” they stressed.
Therefore, the list includes words associated with religion and politics, as well as those considered obscene, offensive and racist. But some of the words on the list were confusing – for example, the organizers of the game exhibit banned the use of the words “Canada,” “Canadian” and “rapping women.” It was absolutely not clear why these words were included on the ban list, and when there is a conundrum, people always want to find clues.
It turns out that recently the words “Canada” and “Canadian” have been actively used to humiliate black people, replacing racist terms. It became so popular that the words were added to an online database of racial slurs.
The E3 2021 digital exhibition will run from June 12 to 15. Participation will be possible through an online portal with virtual kiosks, publisher presentations, live broadcasts and social elements. The live stream will also be available for viewing via Twitch, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.
