1. Origin
From the name, we can already tell where each breed comes from. The Malamutes originated from western Alaska in the Inuit tribe at the end of the 19th century.
When the Gold Rush started in the area, many people started adopting the Malamute. For this reason, it is a popular breed in Canada and the United States.
On the other hand, Husky comes from the cold and uninhabited region of Siberia, thanks to the Chukchi tribe. Among them, having one of these wolfhounds as a companion is a matter of pride. They symbolize strength and power.
2. Uses
From the beginning, Alaskan malamutes and Siberian huskies were used for hunting and transporting food, wood or even people on sleds.
Additionally, Husky is used to provide warmth and protection for women and children during cold, snowy nights. In addition, they are used to traveling long distances due to their stamina and physique.
3. Size
One of the main differences between Alaskan Malamutes and Siberian Huskies is their size. Both were large breeds, but the Malamute was taller and heavier.
On average, Malamutes can reach a height of 63 cm and weigh 35 kilograms. Husky is usually no more than two feet tall and weighs only 30 kilograms.
4. Eyes
Without a doubt, one of the most striking differences between the Alaskan Malamute and the Siberian Husky is their eyes.
Huskies have bright blue or green eyes and may even have light colored irises. Malamutes always have dark, black, or brown eyes.

5. Head
At first glance, the Malamute has a larger square face than the Husky. However, both have mostly white faces with dark lines that make them look like they’re wearing masks. At the same time, they appear to be wearing hats or coats on the forehead, which are darker than their muzzle.
At the level of the ears, the Malamutes have them smaller and wider at the base. Husky ears are longer. However, both have pointed, triangular ears.
6. Fireplace mantel
Another difference between the Alaskan Malamute and the Siberian Husky is their coat. Although both breeds have double-layered coats, their coloring can vary (white, gray, brown, black, red).
The coat of the Malamute is longer and coarser to the touch, but that of the Husky is very soft and of medium length.
7. Personality
Malamute is very obedient to every member of the family. He does not form an emotional bond with a family member as he is used to being in a group and enjoys being around other people and animals.
The breed is also known for its nobility, loyalty and dedication. If you train these dogs from the early stages of their life, they will never disobey orders.
As for the personality of the husky, he is gentle, affectionate, friendly, outgoing and enjoys being around other dogs. He can be aggressive with strangers or in unfamiliar surroundings.

This breed is very intelligent, docile, and requires a lot of physical and mental stimulation. Therefore, the agility game is perfect for huskies.
Finally, Alaskan Malamutes and Siberian Huskies are not much different in terms of health. Both tend to suffer from hip dysplasia and eye problems, such as cataracts. No dog likes heat and can gain weight by overeating and lacking exercise.
