Jakarta (ANTARA) – A fire broke out on Saturday (10/23) in the container of a cargo ship carrying mining chemicals from British Columbia.

Sixteen crew members were evacuated from the MV Zim Kingston, while five remain on board to extinguish the blaze, said coast guard Canada in a press release on Saturday (23/20).
“No injuries have been reported,” Danaos Shipping Co, the company that operates the container ship, said in a statement to Reuters on Sunday.
The blaze “appears to have been extinguished” and fire and rescue companies have been urged to act to ensure the safe return of the crew, Danaos said.
Earlier, the Canadian Coast Guard agency said there were ten containers on fire, adding that the fire continued to spread but the ship itself had not caught fire.
Meanwhile, the agency said it was working with U.S. partners to locate the 40 containers that fell overboard, saying they posed a significant risk to sailors.
“Seafarers are advised to stay clear of the area. There is currently no risk to the safety of people ashore, but the situation will continue to be monitored,” the agency said.
Video obtained by Reuters showed a fire descending from the ship’s deck into the water.
Zim Kingston reported on Friday that the ship was experiencing bad weather west of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
