Canadian 3×3 basketball team wins women’s series final, capping undefeated streak

The Canadian 3×3 women’s basketball team ended their 2022 season on a high on Sunday, winning the final in Constanta, Romania with a 21-16 overall win over France.

The Canadian team started the weekend as the top-seeded team and went unbeaten in preliminary matches against Romania, France and Lithuania before beating Germany in the semi-finals and France in the final. .

For a Canadian team led by sisters Katherine and Michelle Plouffe, as well as Kacie Bosch and Paige Crozon, it was their fourth series stoppage win this season, a year in which the foursome have won all four events at which they have participated. Meanwhile, Crozon competed in five events in the women’s series.

Early in Sunday’s final, both Plouffe sisters missed lay-ups, but Canada bounced back from an early six-point deficit, scoring nine unanswered points to propel them to the championship.

Michelle led the team with a game-high 14 points in the final as Team Canada with this roster went undefeated when they played together.

“We had faith in each other, we knew we could make saves, and the rest of our defense is really important because if we know we can make saves, we can turn it into buckets, so we’re stayed consistent,” Michelle said after the finale. “We were brave and we fought. It’s been a crazy summer.”

The final was not Canada’s first victory of the weekend against France; however, after beating the French 21-12 in the preliminary match, led by another dominating performance from Michelle Plouffe.

Although Canada lost to France in the 3×3 World Cup final earlier this summer, victory in the women’s series proved they are the best in the world, especially with their first-choice roster.

Although the Canadian women’s 3×3 team did not participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics due to qualification rules allowing only one gender per country to compete, they hope to be in good shape before Paris 2024, with their eyes on Olympic gold.
